But it stops Google from working and brings up unwanted adverts so I think it definitely needs to be removed doesn't it !?!

Hi Duncan, JS Redir is a webthreat - what it does is take the webpage that you're trying to load, and redirect you to another malicious site where you might catch a virus. AVG protects you from these malicious redirects in real time - so that you don't get infected by a virus. So in that sense there is no need to remove JS-Redir, as it's not really a virus but a browser exploit.

Is AVG scanning capable of removing the JS-Redirect virus or not ? Also the clickcheck virus is persistent, and AVG does not detect it. Clickcheck works the same way as JS-Redirect, and as Dol200 said, starts to mess up the routine Google search Does AVG have the right answers to these problems ?

I have had a 'redirect' virus/trojan horse for several weeks. I have found myself redirected to sites, often salacious, for no apparent reason. Over the period, AVG has detected and removed various trojan horse threats but still the attacks continued. On 21/3/12 I ran a scan on both AVG and Malwarebytes but recieved 'no threats found'. However, redirects continued. Today I downloaded Trend Micro 'House Call', ran a scan and found 3 trojan horse threats. House Call removed them and I now BELIEVE everything is OK. Fingers crossed!
