Virus Removal Guide
AVG automatically blocks infected files from being saved into your computer and malicious web pages from being loaded.
However, if any threat found its way into your computer, AVG can detect, block and help you remove it.
Detection on Scan Results
After scanning your computer with your AV software, a list of detections will be shown to you and the recommended option is to click Remove all. This way all threats will be removed and your computer restored to health.
Threat detection popup
If an infection was detected in your computer, your AVG software will block access to the file to prevent the spreading of the infection, and prompt you to choose one of the following options.
If none of the above works
There are special cases in which the infection persists, even after scanning and removing. Please select from the options below the one that applies to your case.
A
Threat in a System File
When AVG detects a threat on an important system file, it does not remove it automatically to prevent deletion of files running your system.
Examples of important system files are:
- WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe
- WINDOWS\system32\user32.dll
- WINDOWS\explorer.exe
The recommended solution to delete these threats is to restore the infected file from the system backup.

Detection on Game File
If AVG detected a gaming file as infected, and you are sure that this file is correct and clean, it is possible that the detected file is a false alarm.
To solve the problem, please send us this file for analysis and we will inform you about the result.
AVG also has the option of Gaming Mode, that will suppress pop ups when full screen applications are running. You can go to AVG FAQ for instructions on how to configure it.
